Cocoa Opportunities

Cocoa Opportunities

The learnings generated by our ancestors and our own appreciation for what matters in the modern cocoa value chain have allowed us to distil the promise the Samoa cocoa industry holds into four high level opportunities, centring around the plants themselves, the post-harvest management cocoa requires, the economic and Good Agricultural Practices principles applicable to both commodity trading and value product marketing, and the knowledge needed to pull it all together. The opportunities were initially identified as part of the Samoa Cocoa Industry Development Initiative’s consultation process in 2016 and 2017, with the help of the New Zealand Foreign Affairs & Trade Aid Programme.

Grafted plants now ready for planting!

Our first 300 grafted plants are now ready and being sold to SKIA members.

We want as many SKIA members as possible to see the difference in performance between grafted plants and seedlings, so these will be divided among interested farmers.

You need to register your interest with SKIA by Friday afternoon so we can understand how we need to divide the grafted plants. you may be limited to 10 plants if demand is high.

Grafted plants will be available for SAT2.50 pickup, or SAT 2.80 delivered.

These grafted plants have spent more time in our nursery, have grown larger, and have been grafted from parent trees of verified variety. This means they will produce cocoa 1-2 years earlier and in larger volumes than other coca trees.
